It’s important to get the best nutrition you can while you’re pregnant and in the months after you deliver. But let’s face it, making nutrient-packed meals and carving out a reasonable amount of “me time” that even allows you to focus on eating healthy isn’t always doable.

Having the hacks in place for when you know you need to eat healthy, but don’t have the time or the desire to meal prep can be a life saver. Make way for this simple, but extremely healthy antioxidant smoothie that’s perfect for pregnant women and new moms who need their nutrition.

What makes this smoothie recipe so “ultimate”?

Smoothies always sounds like a good idea, but so many are just high sugar fruit smoothies that give you a great kick while you’re drinking it, but leave you dragging a few minutes later.

This smoothie recipe ticks all the boxes because it’s:

  • lower in sugar
  • full of fiber
  • loaded with healthy fat
  • and a hotbed of much-needed protein

The Smoothie Nutrition Breakdown

Less sugar is always good, but if you’re going to get it, make sure it’s from a source that is unrefined. In this case, we used fresh blueberries and raspberries because they could quite possible be the most nutritious fruits out there – and you can find them anywhere. Don’t have fresh? No worries – frozen is just fine!

Fiber not only helps you “go” – something pregnant women can struggle with, but it also helps to boost healthy gut bacteria, control hunger and remove toxins from your body. Tell me, what’s not to love about fiber?

Healthy fat is one of the most important things we can do for our body – but the type of fat is what counts. Real coconut milk (the kind from a can) is loaded with something called medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) that get converted to energy much faster than any other type of fat. In fact, MCTs, like coconut milk, are often called the “athlete’s fat” for this reason.

Protein is something pregnant women just don’t get enough of. In fact, research has shown that 98% of women have below normal levels of protein while they’re pregnant, which can affect energy levels and a woman’s ability to feel her best after the baby arrives.

The type of protein also counts. It’s important for women to eat protein that’s easy to absorb and can bring blood-protein levels back to normal. Protiva Pregnancy and New Mom do just that, which is why it’s in our smoothie!

Here’s the recipe! We hope you love it!

1 cup coconut milk (canned)
1/2 cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
handful of ice
1 scoop of Protiva Pregnancy or Protiva New Mom

Blend up and enjoy!
